Question

Write points of distinction between a metallic solid and an ionic solid other than metallic luster?

Open in App
Solution

Metallic solids : Metallic solids are conductors of electricity in solid state as well as in molten state as the metal atoms are held together through the metallic bond where the electrons are freely moving.

Ionic solids: Ionic solids are insulators in solid state but conductors in molten state and in aqueous solutions because in crystal form the electrons are trapped in crystal structure so the the mobilization of electrons do not take place.
