Management satisfies the following criteria for it to be called an art:
Existing literature: Every form of art is defined by its literature and a knowledge base. Similar to this, management has its own literature for theoretical knowledge and learning such as Henry Fayol’s “Principles of Management” and Frederick Taylor’s “Scientific Management Theory”.
Dynamic application: Art involves personalised application of the knowledge and skills of a person. Similarly, managers mould the theories and principles of management as per the given situation and the need of the hour.
Practice and creativity: Art is majorly based on the practice and creativity of the artist. Managers, similarly, use creativity and imagination to apply the theories and principles of management to different situations. Just like each artist specialises inone form of art, different managers distinguish themselves in terms of creativity andapplication of their managerial skills.
