Alcohol abuse: It is defined as unhealthy drinking behaviour. This could include drinking too much at a single moment of time or continuing to drink every day. If a person continues to abuse alcohol, they may quickly find themselves meeting the criteria for an alcohol use disorder which may include withdrawal symptoms when not using, decreased interest on work etc.
Drugs and Alcohol abuse: Use and abuse of drugs and alcohol by teenagers is very common and can have serious consequences. In the 15-24 year age range, half of the total number of deaths involve alcohol or drug abuse. The adverse effects of drugs and alcohol abuse are reckless behaviour, vandalism and violence. Common warning signs of drug and alcohol abuse include a drop in academic performance, unexplained absence from school/college, lack of interest in personal hygiene, isolation, depression, fatigue, aggressive and rebellious behaviour, change in sleeping and eating habits, a deteriorating relationship with family and friends.
