Kidney:

  1. The kidneys are bean-shaped organs towards the back of our body, just above the waist.
  2. The blood in our body is constantly passing through our kidneys.
  3. The renal artery brings dirty blood containing waste substances into the kidneys.

Functions of the kidney:

  1. The function of the kidney is to remove the poisonous substance urea, other waste salts, and excess water from the blood and excrete them in the form of a yellowish liquid called urine.
  2. Filtration, Reabsorption, Secretion, collection, and Concentration of the urine are done in the kidneys.

Tubular reabsorption:-

  1. Tubular reabsorption is the removal of some solutes and water from the tubular fluid and their return to the blood.

Tubular secretion:

  1. The harmful or not needed by the body, like ammonia, potassium, and creatinine, are secreted from the capillary blood into the lumen of the distal tubule.

Ultrafiltration:-

  1. The process of filtration of the blood in the Bowman’s capsule is ultrafiltration.
  2. The glomerular capillaries of Malpighian corpuscles receive blood through the afferent renal artery under high pressure and leave through the efferent renal artery.
  3. The wall of glomerulus and bowman's capsules are thin and permeable, and in close contact with each other.
  4. A large amount of water, along with certain useful compounds and certain harmful compounds and waste, are filtered out into the bowman's capsule.
