Write the balanced chemical equation for mixture of Soda-lime and Sodium acetate is heated

Open in App
Solution

The balanced chemical equation for the mixture of Soda-lime and Sodium acetate:

  • When sodium acetate (CH3COONa) is heated with Soda-lime, Methane (CH4)is produced.
  • In decarboxylation, the product is alkane having one less carbon atom than a Carboxylic acid (CnH2n+1COOH)
  • In decarboxylation, the Sodium salt of Carboxylic acid on heating with Soda-lime (NaOH+CaO) produces alkane.
  • In decarboxylation, the product is alkane having one less carbon atom than a Carboxylic acid.
  • The chemical reaction is as follows:

CH3COONa(s)Sodiumacetate+NaOH(s)Sodiumhydroxide+CaO(l)SodalimeCH4(g)Methane+Na2CO3(s)Sodiumacetate
