Question

Write the balanced chemical equation for the following:

  1. A mixture of soda lime and sodium acetate is heated
  2. Calcium carbide to ethyne
  3. FeA FeCl3BFeCO3CFe (NO3)2
  4. Sodium ethanoate to methane

Solution

a. NaOH+CaOSodalime+CH3COONasodiumacetateCH4methane+Na2CO3sodiumcarbonate

When soda lime react with sodium acetate, carboxyl group is removed.

So this reaction is called carboxylation reaction.

The product obtained is methane and sodium carbonate.

b. CaC2calciumcarbide+2H2OwaterCa(OH)2+calciumhydroxideC2H2ethyne

When calcium carbide react with water, calcium hydroxide and ethyne (acetylene) is formed .

c. A) HCl B) Na2CO3 c) HNO3

FeHClFeCl3ferricchlorideNa2CO3FeCO3ferrouscarbonateHNO3Fe(NO3)2ferrousnitrate

d. CH3COONasodiumethanoate+NaOHsodiumhydroxideNa2CO3sodiumcarbonate+CH4methane

Sodium ethanoate react with sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate and methane is formed.
