Ethanoic acid ( $C H_{3} C O O H$ ) reacts with ethanol ( $C_{2} H_{5} O H$ ) in the presence of concentrated $H_{2} S O_{4}$ to form ethyl ethanoate ( $C H_{3} C O O C_{2} H_{5}$ ) which is a sweet-smelling compound commonly known as esters.
