Solution

Ethanoic acid reacts with sodium carbonate to produce sodium ethonoate, water and carbon dioxide.

2CH3COOH + Na2CO3 → 2CH3COONa + H2O + CO2

When passed in small amount, carbon dioxide reacts with lime water [Ca(OH)2] to form calcium carbonate, which is a white precipitate and water.

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 -------------> CaCO3 + H2O
