Question

Write the difference between Molar Conductance and Specific Conductance?

Open in App
Solution

The molar conductance (Λ) is the conductance of volume of solution containing 1 mole of dissolved electrolyte when placed between two parallel electrodes 1 cm apart and large enough to contain between them all the solution. The unit of molar conductance is Sm2mol1
Specific conductance (κ) is the conductance of unit cube of material.
The unit of specific conductance is Sm1
The relationship between molar conductance and specific conductance is
Λ=1000κC
Here C is the molar concentration.
