Question

Write the erosional and depositional landforms of action of wind in an arid region

Open in App
Solution

Winds have stronger erosional and depositional force in arid regions or deserts. It can easily pick up small particles and transport as the soil here is dry and sandy.

The erosional landforms formed due to the action of wind are
Pediplains:
  • When the high relief structures in deserts are converted to low featureless plains by the activities of wind, they are called as Pediplains.
  • Deflation hollows :
  • Deflation is the movement of loose particles from the ground such as sand in deserts by the action of wind.
  • Mushroom table:
  • In deserts, a huge amount of sand and rock particles are shifted close to the ground by the winds which cause more bottom erosion in overlying rocks.
The depositional landforms formed due to the action of wind are Sand Dunes. There can be various sand dunes such as Barchans, Seifs etc.
