First aid: Whenever an accident happens, the injured person must be given medical aid before the doctor's arrival or before the victim is hospitalized.

This immediate help given to an injured person is called first aid. It is very essential and can save the life of the injured person.

The main objectives of first aid are:

1. To give some relief from pain, as in the case of a fracture.
2. To prevent the injury from getting worst, especially if there is bleeding.
3. To save a life, especially in case of poisoning.

Cuts and wounds:

1. A cut is a break in the skin.
2. It leads to bleeding.
3. Try to remove all the dirt from the wound and clean the skin around it with small pads of cotton soaked in an antiseptic solution.
4. Cover the wound with a clean cotton dressing to stop bleeding. Tie the bandage.

Bruise:

1. Ice the bruise with an ice pack wrapped in a towel.
2. Leave it in place for 10 to 20 minutes.
3. Repeat several times a day for a day or two as needed. Compress the bruised area if it is swelling, using an elastic bandage.
