WCU stands for World Conservation Union. IUCN, till 1990 to 2008 was called, WCU.
WCU classified the threatened species into-
1. Extinct species - when the species no longer exists.
2. Endangered species - those species which are very likey to become extinct.
3. Vulnerable species - those species which are likely to become endangered, if the situation that lead to it's extinction prevails.
4. Near threatened species - those species which presently are not categorised under threatened, but may be under threat of extinction in the near future.
