Dear Student, Plasma membrane is the outer most membrane of the cell (in case of animal cells who does not have cell wall) also known as cell membrane. Plasma membrane is a semi permeable membrane made up of lipids, proteins and carbohydrates. Main function of the plasma membrane is to transport material in and out of the cell, it also acts as a protective barrier and communication link between internal cell and the outer environment.
