Question

Write the mathematical equation for Newton's law of gravitation.

Open in App
Solution

The mathematical equation for Newton's law of gravitation

  1. Gravitational force is directly proportional to the mass of first body

FGαM eq …..(1)

2. Gravitational force is directly proportional to the mass of second body

FGαm eq …..(2)

3. Gravitational force is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

FGα1r2 eq …..(3)

By combing eq…1,2 and 3, we get

FGαMmr2

FG=GMmr2, Here G is universal gravitational constant

Here, FG= Gravtational Force

M = Mass of first bofy

m = mass of second body

r = Distance between center of two bodies
