Part 1: -OH

  1. The functional group -OH is known as the Alcoholic or Hydroxyl group.
  2. The alcohol group is formed when one Oxygen atom and one Hydrogen atom are joined together.
  3. The compounds consist of the alcohol group known as Alcohols. For example, Methanol (CH3-OH).

Part 2: -CHO

  1. The functional group -CHO is known as the Aldehydic group.
  2. The alcohol group is formed when one Oxygen atom and one Hydrogen atom are joined together with Carbon with a double bond and single bond respectively.
  3. The compounds consist of the Aldehydic group known as Aldehydes. For example, Ethanal ( CH3CHO)

Part 3: -COOH

  1. -COOH represents the Carboxylic group.
  2. Carboxylic group is also known as the Carboxyl group.
  3. Methanoic acid ( HCOOH) is an example of the Carboxylic group.

Part 4: -C=C-

  1. The Alkene group have a double bond between two Carbon atoms.
  2. Ethene ( CH2=CH2 ) is an example of the Alkenes group.
