Solution

  1. In a thermal power plant, coal is used as the major source of energy.
  2. During combustion, the chemical energy stored in the coal is converted into heat energy.
  3. The heat energy is used to heat the water which will be converted as steam.
  4. The steam runs the turbine.
  5. The mechanical energy of the turbine is converted into electrical energy using a generator.

Hence, in a thermal power station, chemical energy is converted into heat energy which in turn converted into electrical energy.
