We know that If the product of two surds is a rational number, then each factor is a rationalising factor of the other.

Now multiply $\sqrt{ab}$ to $a\sqrt{ab}$ to make $\sqrt{ab}$ a rational number as shown below:

$\left(\sqrt{ab}\right)\times \left(a\sqrt{ab}\right)=a\left(ab\right)=a^{2}b$

Hence, $\sqrt{ab}$ is the rationalising factor of $a\sqrt{ab}$.
