  • Isotopes differ in the number of neutrons.
  • For example, carbon-14 (6C14), carbon-13 (6C13), and carbon-12 ( 6C12) are all symbols of isotopes of carbon.
  • Number of neutrons is calculated subtracting atomic mass from atomic number)
  • 6C14 ( Number of neutrons= 14-6=8), 6C13 ( Number of neutrons= 13-6 = 7), 6C12 (Number of neutrons= 12-6= 6)
