(i) Acidic salts

Solution

(i) Acidic salts:

  1. Acid salts are a class of salts that produce an acidic solution after being dissolved in a solvent.
  2. Its formation as a substance has a greater electrical conductivity than that of the pure solvent.
  3. The salts produced when a strong acid is reacted with weak base are known as acidic salts: Weakbase+StrongacidAcidicsalt

Examples of acidic salt:

  1. Ammonium chloride(NH4Cl) is a colorless crystalline substance that is highly soluble in water and readily forms slightly acidic solutions. Ammonium chloride(NH4Cl) is an acidic salt as it is produced from HCl(strong acid) and NH3 (weak base). The reaction is given below:NH3(aq)Ammonia+HCl(aq)HydrochloricacidNH4Cl(aq)Ammoniumchloride
  2. Ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4is an inorganic salt that has many commercial uses. The most common use is as a soil fertilizer. Ammonium sulfate is an acidic salt as it is produced from Ammonia (weak base) and Sulphuric acid (strong acid). The reaction is given below:2NH3(aq)Ammonia+H2SO4(aq)Sulphuricacid(NH4)2SO4(aq)Ammoniumsulphate
