Solution

Basic Salts: Salts which are formed after the reaction between a weak acid and strong base are called Basic Salts. For example; Sodium carbonate, Sodium acetate, etc.

Examples of basic salt:

  1. Sodium carbonateNa2CO3 is formed after the reaction between sodium hydroxide (a strong base) and carbonic acid (a weak acid). It is widely distributed in nature, occurring as constituents of mineral waters and as the solid minerals natron, trona, and thermonatrite. The chemical reaction is given below:
    H2CO3(aq)(Carbonicacid)+2NaOH(aq)(Sodiumhydroxide)Na2CO3(aq)(Sodiumcarbonate)+H2O(l)(Water)
  2. Sodium acetateCH3COONa is a food additive obtained by neutralization of acetic acid. When used as a food additive, sodium acetate may be indicated by its group name, substance name, or abbreviation depending on the purpose of use. Sodium acetateCH3COONa is formed after the reaction between a strong base, sodium hydroxide (a strong base) and acetic acid, (a weak acid).
    CH3COOH(aq)Aceticacid+NaOH(aq)SodiumhydroxideCH3COONa(aq)Sodiumacetate+H2O(l)Water
