Write two significance of bioreactors.

Open in App
Solution

Bioreactors are chambers in which microorganisms are cultured in a liquid/solid medium. To produce the desired product in large quantities, bioreactors were developed where large volumes (100-1000 litres) of culture can be processed. They are also known as fermenters.
Following are the two significance of Bioreactors:
  1. They are important for large scale production of recombinant proteins.
  2. They provide the optimal conditions for achieving the desired product by providing optimum growth conditions (temperature, pH, substrate, salts, vitamins, oxygen).
