Solution

(a) Potassium cyanide solution dissolves only copper hydroxide.

(b) Zinc hydroxide dissolves in excess of sodium hydroxide solution to form soluble, colourless complex salt, sodium zincate. Copper hydroxide is insoluble even in excess sodium hydroxide solution.

(c) Both copper hydroxide and zinc hydroxide dissolve in excess ammonium hydroxide solution. Copper hydroxide forms soluble, deep blue complex of tetramine copper(II) sulphate. Zinc hydroxide forms soluble, colourless complex of tetramine zinc(II) sulphate.
