Question

Zygote and endosperm.

Open in App
Solution

Zygote:

  1. A zygote is a fertilized egg that is formed by the union or fusion of male(pollen) and female gamete(egg).
  2. In flowering plants, the pollen tube(a tube that transfers the pollen from the stigma to the ovule) contains two male gametes, of which one fuses with the egg and results in the formation of the zygote.
  3. This results in the formation of a seed.

Endosperm:

  1. The endosperm is a tissue which surrounds the embryo of the seeds and it provides nutrition to the embryo.
  2. The second male gamete that is present in the pollen tube fuses with two polar nuclei in the central cell.
  3. This later results in the formation of the endosperm.
