Peptization:

  1. Basically the dispersion of a freshly precipitated material into the colloidal solution by the action of an electrolyte in the solution is actually termed as peptization.
  2. So here the electrolyte used is called the peptizing agent.
  3. For example: the sols obtained by the peptization are: Freshly prepared Ferric Hydroxide on the treatment with a small amount of Ferric chloride solution at once forms a dark reddish brown solution.
  4. Here, the Ferric chloride will act as the peptizing agent.
