Anu wants to boil water quickly in a test tube. On observing the different zones of the flame, she is not able to decide which zone of the flame will be best for boiling water quickly. Help her in this activity.

  1. A flame basically consists of the three zones:
  2. The first zone which is actually the Outer zone is blue in color also the non-luminous one because of the complete combustion and this zone is the hottest in temperature when compared to the others.
  3. The second zone which is known as the Middle zone is yellow and bright in the color region. It is moderately hot and here partial combustion will take place.
  4. The third zone is the Inner zone which is black in color because of the presence of unburnt wax vapors.

Hence, Anu should boil the water in the hottest zone of the flame, which is the non luminous one or the outermost zone.
