Despite having specific shapes and carrying out specific tasks, cell organelles cannot be referred to as structural and functional components of living organisms.
This is the case because they are only able to carry out their duties when they are within a living cell.
They are unable to operate as a separate entity outside of the cell.
On the other hand, the nuclei have a separate existence.
