Question

Define Charles Law. Give Its mathematical formula?

Open in App
Solution

Part 1: Charles’ law:

  • According to this law, at constant pressure, the volume of a given gas is directly proportional to its temperature.
  • It gives the relationship between the volume and temperature of a gas.

Part 2: Mathematically:

VαT (At constant pressure)

VT=Constant

V = volume

T= temperature

or

V1T1=V2T2

Part 3: Graphical Representation Of Charles Law:

  • ISOBAR- The graph between V and T at constant pressure is known as isobar or isoplestics and it always gives a straight line.
  • A plot of V versus T (°C) at constant pressure is a straight line at – 273.15°C.
  • -273.15-degree Celcius is the lowest possible temperature.
