During the construction of a building, the lightning conductor was left hanging in the air by mistake. Would the lightning conductor be still effective? Explain.

Lightning conductor:

  1. It is a safety measure employed by the buildings to prevent them from lightning during thunderstorms.
  2. It consists of a metal rod that is attached to the building while being connected to the ground so that the lightning which strikes the building will get passed to the ground directly without making an impact on the building.
  3. Since a lightning conductor works while being connected to the ground, in the given case the conductor will not work.

Thus, the lightning conductor will not be effective if it was left hanging in the air.
