Question

Give an example of a chemical reaction for the following situation: Sound is produced.

Solution

Explosion reaction:-

  • In this type of reaction, the released gases quickly spread which results in the formation of sound energy.
  • When certain energy ignites the substance, heat, light, and sound energies are released almost immediately.
  • An example of such a type of reaction is the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen which forms water vapour.

2H2(g)Hydrogen+O2(g)Oxygen2H2O(l)Watervapour+energy

  • As hydrogen goes under combustion a lot of energy is released and most of this energy is released in the form of heat.
  • This heat causes the gases to expand. And then a lot of heat is released into the gaseous mixture and the air which is adjacent to it very quickly expands.
  • This gaseous mixture that is formed now contains hydrogen, oxygen, and water vapour that is liberated from this reaction.
  • This quick explanation of gas molecules as a result breaks the sound barrier.
  • And due to this explosion, we hear the pop sound of the burning of hydrogen.

Therefore, the burning of hydrogen gives out a pop sound.
