Solution

Compound with one isopropyl group:-

  1. The simplest structural unit of the isopropyl group is CH(CH3)2 that contains a tertiary carbon.
  2. With the two methyl(-CH3) molecules attached to it, the isopropyl has some specific orientation of being attached to the central carbon atom.
  3. An example of such a compound is 2-methyl pentane CH3-CH2-CH2-CH(CH3)-CH3.
  4. Here in this compound, the methyl group is attached to the second carbon atom, thus making the carbon atom tertiary.
  5. The structure of 2-methyl pentane is:

Therefore, 2-methyl pentane CH3-CH2-CH2-CH(CH3)-CH3 is an example of a compound which has one isopropyl group.
