Solution

Difference between functional group region and fingerprint region in an infrared spectrum:-

FUNCTIONAL GROUP

FINGERPRINT GROUP

  • The range of the Infrared spectrum is 4000 cm-1 to 1450 cm-1.
  • The range of the Infrared spectrum is 1450 cm-1 to 500 cm-1.
  • The spectrum contains stretched vibrations.
  • The spectrum contains bend vibrations.
  • The pattern of peaks is simple.
  • The pattern of peaks is complicated.
  • These are characteristics of specific kinds of bonds.
  • These are characteristic of molecular symmetry or combination bands from multiple bonds.
