Question

How can you express the energy of photon?

Open in App
Solution

Energy of a photon:-

  • Photon is the quantum of electromagnetic radiation.
  • Quantum means to the smallest elementary unit of quantity and one amount of the electromagnetic energy is called a photon.
  • Photon can be characterized by either wavelength (λ) or an equivalent amount of energy(E).
  • Energy of a photon is given as:

E=hcλ

  • Here, E=Energy of photon, h=Plank's constant(6.626×10-34Js), c=speed of light(3×108ms-1), λ=wavelength of the light.

Therefore, the energy of a photon can be expressed as E=hcλ
