How do you convert propanone to propene?

Answer:

Propanone can be converted into propene by following methods.

Step 1 : Reduction of propanone with metal hydride.

When propanone react with the metal hydride like sodium borohydride (NaBH3) it reduces the ketone into secondary alcohol and the product form is propan-2-ol.

Step 2 : Dehydration of propan-2-ol

When propan-2-ol on treated with concentrated sulfuric acid result in removal of water molecule to form propene as a product.
