Question

How many number of isomers are possible for a disubstituted Benzene?

Open in App
Solution

Structural Isomers of disubstituted benzene:

  • Structural Isomers are the compounds in which the compounds have the same molecular formula but different structural formulas.
  • In structural isomerism, the arrangement of atoms or groups of atoms is different.
  • Benzene is a six-membered aromatic compound.
  • In Benzene, the first or original substituted group is numbered as one, and the remaining substituted group is numbered as two.
  • If groups are substituted on the 1-2 position, then it is known as the ‘Ortho’ substitution or ‘Ortho’ isomer.
  • If the substitution is at 1-3 the position, then it is called a ‘Meta’ substitution or isomer.
  • Disubstituted benzene in which position of groups are 1-4 is known as ‘Para’ substitution or isomer.

Hence, there are three isomers that are possible for disubstituted benzene.
