Question

If the internal resistance of a cell is infinite, the current in the circuit will be

Solution

Internal resistance

  1. Internal resistance refers to the opposition to the flow of current offered by the cells and batteries themselves resulting in the generation of heat.
  2. Heat loss, friction, and other processes all contribute to internal resistance, which slows or stops movement.
  3. External Barriers When building engines and powertrains for cars and trucks, engineers frequently employ formulas.

The relationship between internal resistance and current is given by

e=I(r+R)[wheree=emf,I=current,r=internalresistance,R=loadresistance]

On rearranging we get, e=IR+Irore=V+Ir

As given in question internal resistance of the cell is infinite which means there is no flow of current through it.

Hence, if the internal resistance of a cell is infinite, the current in the circuit will be zero.
