The Napoleonic code
Napoleon freed the peasants from manorial dues and serfdom. Administrative divisions were simplified in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the Dutch Republic. Exchange of goods and movement of capital from one region to another were facilitated due to the common national currency, and the introduction of standardized weights and measures. The benefits of these were reaped by small-scale producers and businessmen.
New businessmen, workers, artisans, and peasants enjoyed newfound freedom. Communication and transportation systems were improved. Guild restrictions were removed from towns.
