Question

Name any two effects of electric current.

Open in App
Solution

Explanation:

  1. Electric current can cause heating and lighting.
  2. It can convert a conductor into a temporary magnet.
  3. It can also convert a conductor into a heat emission device like a heater.

Effects of electric current are described below:

Heating effect:

  1. The law of conservation of energy states that the total energy in an isolated system always remains constant.
  2. This means that energy can neither be created nor destroyed – it can only be converted from one form to the other.
  3. If an electric current is passing through a conductor, It becomes hot after some time and produces heat.
  4. This is because of the conversion of some of the electrical energy that passes through the conductor, into heat energy.
  5. This effect is known as the heating effect of current.

Magnetic effect:

  1. When the current passes through the circuit and makes it complete, the bulb lights up.
  2. Now if we bring a magnetic compass near the circuit and see how the needle deflects when the circuit is complete.
  3. This effect is called the magnetic effect of electric current, and this occurs because the needle experiences a force.

Thus, the two effects of electric current are Heating and magnetic effect.
