What does MODEM stands for?

MODEM stands for Modulator Demodulator. The purpose of MODEM is to convert digital information to analog signals and to convert analog signals back into digital information. Most stand-alone modems have just two ports: one that connects to the outside world, and an Ethernet jack that connects to a computer or a router.
