Solution

Translocation

  1. The movement of materials such as carbohydrates and amino acids through the vascular bundles (xylem and phloem) produced as a result of photosynthesis from the leaves to the rest of the plant is known as translocation.
  2. In higher plants, xylem is associated with the translocation of water, minerals, and some organic compounds such as hormones, essentially unidirectional from roots to the aerial parts of the plant.
  3. Phloem translocates a variety of organic compounds and inorganic solutes, bidirectional from one part to other parts of the plants.
