Steel Industry in India

  • Taking advantage of market, transport, cheap labour, India developed its iron and steel industry.
  • The most important steel producing centres in India are spread over four states – Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
  • Bokaro, Rourkela, Jamshedpur, Durgapur, Bhilao, Burnpur are the places where major Indian steel industries are located.
  • Other important steel industries are located in Salem (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh),Vijay Nagar and Bhadravati in Karnataka.
