Alpha radiations have the least penetrating power as they are massive in nature.
- Gamma rays are the most penetrating of all the radiations. As penetration depends on particles’ size, the bigger the size lesser the penetration power, and α particles are bigger, followed by β and then γ. Also, γ rays are highly energetic waves having a higher frequency.
- Alpha particle α – is a helium nucleus, two protons and two neutrons. It has a large mass, compared to other ionising radiations, and a strong positive charge.
- Beta particle β – is a fast-moving electron. It has a tiny mass and a negative charge.
- Gamma-ray γ – is a high-energy electromagnetic wave.
