Solution

Solid State:

  • The study of the composition, structure, and characteristics of solid materials is known as solid-state chemistry.
  • It is also known as materials chemistry on occasion.
  • More significantly, we examine the idea of a compound at a deeper level in solid-state chemistry.
  • In essence, it aids in our understanding of the molecule from the molecular to the crystallographic levels.

Conversion of Quartz into Glass:

  • In the solid-state, there is a strong force of attraction between the molecules of a substance.
  • There is not enough energy to overcome this intermolecular force due to this the particles in a solid vibrate about fixed positions.
  • As a result, their shape and size are fixed.
  • Quartz is crystalline, whereas glass is amorphous.
  • Quartz can be made into glass by melting high-purity quartz crystals at around 2000C in an electrically heated or gas/oxygen-fueled furnace.
