Virus

  1. They are infectious agents that replicate inside the body of a host.
  2. It is a biological entity that can only reproduce within a host.
  3. Viruses possess nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) which are encapsulated within a protective protein coat.
  4. They are able to infect all forms of life, from bacteria to humans, and bring about a multitude of diseases in their host.
  5. Examples- AIDS, Chikungunya, Small Pox, etc.

Parasites

  1. They are an incredibly varied group of organisms that live within host cells.
  2. They are smaller as compared to host organisms and reproduce by causing more damage to the host.
  3. They receive benefits like food and shelter from the host.
  4. Examples- Tapeworms (flat, segmented worms).

Fungi

  1. These are eukaryotic organisms that include microorganisms such as yeasts, molds, and mushrooms.
  2. They are classified under kingdom fungi.
  3. The members contain a cell wall and are omnipresent.
  4. Examples – mushrooms, molds, and yeast.
