Initial kinetic energy, ki=490J

Initial potential energy, Pi=0

Mass of the body, m=5kg

Step 2. Finding the height, h at which kinetic energy is half of the original value.

According to the question,

Final kinetic energy, kf=12ki

kf=12×490

kf=245J

Final potential energy, Pf=mgh

Applying the energy conservation

ki+Pi=kf+Pf

490=245+5×9.8×h

h=5m
