Question

Give one mechanism by which cancer cells bypass the hyperproliferation stress response.

Open in App
Solution

Stress bypass mechanism:

  1. In cancer cells, the hyperproliferation stress response is inhibited which allows cells with hyperactive mitogenic signals to continue to proliferate.
  2. The anti-apoptotic or pro-apoptotic genes can play an important role to avoid apoptosis in several cases.
  3. Cancer cells increase or reduce the expression of anti-apoptotic or pro-apoptotic genes to avoid apoptosis.
  4. Alternatively, they could stop apoptosis by stabilizing or destabilizing anti- or pro-apoptotic proteins.
