Give some examples of conjugated proteins.

Open in App
Solution

Proteins:

  1. Proteins are huge biomolecules and macromolecules that are made up of one or more long chains of amino acids.
  2. On the basis of composition, there are two kinds of proteins namely simple proteins and conjugated proteins.

Conjugated Proteins:

  1. Complex molecules that include simple protein and non-protein components are known as conjugated proteins.
  2. The non-protein component is known as the prosthetic group.
  3. A conjugated protein with its prosthetic group is known as the apoprotein.
  4. When the apoprotein is combined with its prosthetic group is known as the holoprotein.

Examples Of Conjugated Proteins:

  1. Examples of conjugated proteins are phosphoproteins, glycoproteins, nucleoproteins, chromoproteins, lipoproteins, flavoproteins, metalloproteins, etc.
  2. The description of some of the proteins is given below.
