Question

2) A die is thrown. Find the probability of getting a) a number 2 b) an even number c) a number greater than 2

Open in App
Solution

a)

Total outcomes from cubic die = 6.

So sample place has 6 points namely {1,2,3,4,5,6}

Event=Set of desired outcome=getting number 2 ={2} i.e 1 element.

So, Probability of getting the number 2
=1/6

b)
Total outcomes from cubic die = 6.
So sample place has 6 points namely {1,2,3,4,5,6}

Event=Set of desired outcome=Set of all even numbered outcome ={2,4,6} i.e 3 elements.

So, Probability of getting even numbered outcome=3/6=0.5
c)

Total outcomes from cubic die = 6.

So sample place has 6 points namely {1,2,3,4,5,6}

Event=Set of desired outcome=Set of all numbers greater than 2 in the dice ={3,4,5,6} i.e 4 elements.

So, Probability of getting a number greater than 2 =4/6
=2/3
