Solution

The correct option is A

6.68×1023

The correct option is (A).

Explanation of the correct option:

Given data:

Given the mass of Sucrose = 3.42g

Given the mass of water= 18g

The molecular formula of sucrose = C12H22O11

Avogadro number= NA=6.022×1023

Step 1: Calculation for the molar mass of sucrose(C12H22O11)

The molar mass of sucrose(C12H22O11) =12×Aomicmassofcarbon(12)+22×AtomicmassofHydrogen(1)+11×Atomicmassofoxygen(16)

= 12×12+22×1+11×16

= 144+22+176= 342g/mol

Step 2: Calculation for the total number of oxygen atoms in Sucrose.

  1. Moles of sucrose= givenmass÷molarmass = 3.42÷342=0.01moles
  2. Number of oxygen atoms in 1 sucrose molecule= 11

1mole of sucrose(C12H22O11) contains= 11×NA atoms of oxygen

0.01moles of sucrose(C12H22O11) contains= 11×0.01NA atoms of oxygen

= 0.11NAatoms of oxygen

Step 3: Calculation of the total number of oxygen atoms in water.

  1. Moles of water = givenmass÷molarmass = 18÷18=1mole
  2. Number of oxygen atoms in 1 water molecule= 1

1mole of water contains= 1×NA atoms of oxygen

1moles of water contains= 1×1NA atoms of oxygen

= 1NA atoms of oxygen

Step 4: Calculation of the total number of oxygen atoms in the solution.

Total number of oxygen atoms= 0.11+1= 1.11NA

Number of oxygen atoms in solution= 1.11×6.022×1023

=6.68×1023

Hence 3.42gsucrose is dissolved in 18g water in a beaker. The number of oxygen atoms in the solution is 6.68×1023.
