Question

3x2 + 34x + 11 = 0

Open in App
Solution

Given: 3x2 + 34x + 11 = 0

On splitting the middle term 34x as x + 33x, we get:

3x2 + x + 33x + 11 = 0

x(3x + 1) + 11(3x + 1) = 0

(3x + 1) (x + 11) = 0

We know that if the product of two numbers is zero, then at least one of them must be zero.

Thus,

3x + 1 = 0 or x + 11 = 0

x = – 13 or x = –11
Therefore, the solution of the given equation is x = –11, – 13.
