40g MgO dissolves in H2O to form 200 ml of solution, if density of solution is 1.5g/ml. Calculate the molality of the solution.

Open in App
Solution

MgO is solute & H2O is solvent,
Weight of solute =40g
Density of solution =1.5g/mL
Volume of solution =200ml
mass of solution (weight) = Density × volume
=1.5×200=300g
Weight of solvent = Weight of solution weight of solute
=30040
=260g
Moles of solute =weight of soluteMolecular weight of solute=4040=1mole
molality (m) =No of moles of soluteWeight of solvent in kg =10.260=3.84mol/kg=m
